Speakers

Tim Wright

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Tim Wright

Dr. Tim Wright is a pediatric dentist and a James W. Bawden Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Adams School of Dentistry. He also serves as the Editor in Chief of the Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA). He previously served as Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Interim Chair of the Department of Endodontics, and Director of Strategic Initiatives. Dr. Wright has held offices of national distinction, having served as Vice President and then President of the American Association for Dental Research (AADR). A three-time recipient of AADR’s prestigious Gies Award, Dr. Wright has also received the Distinguished Science Award presented by the International Association of Dental Research. He currently serves the ADA as a member of the ADA’s Dental Quality Alliance and previously served as chair of the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs. Dr. Wright studied chemistry at West Virginia University (WVU), received a D.D.S. from the WVU School of Dentistry, and an M.S. certification from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He obtained board certification from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry in 1990.

Amy Martin

Dr. Amy Martin

Dr. Amy Martin is Professor and Chair for the Department of Stomatology and the Director for the Division of Population Oral Health at the James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina where she also has a secondary appointment in the College of Medicine, Department of Public Health Sciences.

Deirdre Williams

Dr. Deirdre Williams

Dr. Deirdre Williams is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina.

Joni Nelson

Dr. Joni Nelson

Dr. Joni Nelson is an Assistant Professor and Deputy Director in the Division of Population Oral Health at the James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine and also serves in a dual appointment role in the Department of Public Health Sciences, College of Medicine.

Gerta Ayers

Mrs. Gerta Ayers

Mrs. Gerta Ayers currently serves as a Senior Consultant with the Division of Dental Services at the SC Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS).

Bethany Carlos

Dr. Bethany Carlos

Dr. Bethany Carlos is a Pediatrician from South Carolina who completed her medical training at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She is serving in the National Health Service Corps at a community health facility in Washington, DC.
