Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric dentistry is the area of dentistry that is dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teenage years. The very young, pre-teens, and teenagers all require different approaches in dealing with their behavior, guiding their dental growth and development and helping them avoid future dental problems.

The pediatric dentistry program at the Medical University of South Carolina strongly endorses and pursues comprehensive patient care which demonstrates a sensitivity, efficiency, effectiveness, and completeness in meeting the dental needs for each assigned child patient.

To allow optimal and balanced clinical experiences within the scope of dentistry for children, each student is responsible for the comprehensive dental treatment, to completion, of a selected spectrum of child patients. The student's clinical competence in treating pediatric patients will be evaluated in terms of the quality of the services rendered, the sensitivity and efficiency with which the patient and parent are handled, and the overall treatment accomplished.
