MUSC dental care to open in growing Summerville, SC

MUSC’s dental and oral health services are coming to the Nexton community. The James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine will open its Nexton Dental and Oral Health Center in the second half of 2024.

“Providing oral health services in Summerville aligns with MUSC’s vision of expanding care in South Carolina and exemplifies the college’s commitment to providing our dental students with community-based care opportunities,” said Sarandeep Huja, D.D.S, Ph.D., dean of the College of Dental Medicine.

The new clinic will provide an experience similar to that of a private practice. While dental students complete the majority of their clinical education in the teaching clinics at MUSC’s downtown Charleston campus, students in their final years broaden their knowledge and skills by participating in clinical rotations.

The center is the second MUSC dental care location off the Charleston peninsula.

Comprehensive dental and oral health care

The new Dental and Oral Health Center will provide a wide range of general and specialty dental services, including restorative dentistry, implants, endodontics (root canals), periodontics (gum disease treatments), and oral surgery.

Providers are general practitioners with extensive clinical experience and specialty dentists with postdoctoral training. They are also faculty members of the College of Dental Medicine. MUSC dental students and residents also will provide patient care under the supervision of faculty dentists.

Convenience for the growing Nexton community

The new dental services are located within the MUSC Health Nexton Medical Park, which is home to various specialty clinics – all in one convenient setting with access to ample and free parking.
