An uncharted journey to become Doctors of Dental Medicine

The Class of 2023 matriculated in the summer of 2019. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, their education moved online for an unforeseeable amount of time. Despite all the challenges this class faced, they were the first full cohort to take the Integrated National Boards and they earned a 98% first-time pass rate.

This cohort is also full of assured leaders. Dr. Cody Hayden, Dr. Nate Calvert, Dr. Nick Schuster, and Dr. Beau Broussard each served a year as class president. Dr. Mackenzie Long led the entire MUSC student body as the Student Government Association president and Dr. Sammy Huynh was the national vice president of the American Student Dental Association.

Dr. Jaden Lee graduated among the Class of 2023, completing eight years of study in the college’s Dental Scientist Training Program, one of only 11 such dual-degree programs offered in the nation.
